Remembrance of the Macedonian WWII Holocaust

makevska_movies_thThe history of Jews in the territory of the present-day Republic of Macedonia began during Roman times, when Jews first arrived in the region, fleeing persecution in other Roman territories. The first evidence of Jews in the region is an ancient synagogue, dating from the late 3rd century AD. Today, around 200 Jews reside in the Republic of Macedonia , mostly in the capital, Skopje and a few in Štip and Bitola .

Kiwanis provides coats for children in Macedonia

Steamboat Springs — Many students living in Steamboat Springs wouldn't give coats and boots a second thought.
But for many students living in Macedonia, coats and boots are luxury items.
Steamboat Springs resident Vesna Palmer, who is from Macedonia, recently asked the local Kiwanis Club to donate money to a nonprofit Macedonian group to purchase 40 coats and 10 pairs of boots for several minority Turkish female students.

Macedonian Mission shares language skills, culture and aid

Since she was in fourth grade, Vesna Palmer has been absorbing words.
The Steamboat Springs resident and native of Macedonia took up English as her first second language. In the years since, she’s made linguistics a passion, earning advanced degrees in the subject and taking an interest in how language is used in multilingual environments.
That passion, along with a love for volunteerism, motivated Palmer to found Macedonian Mission for Humanity, a nonprofit organization that strives to “unite diverse communities by promoting multilingual and multicultural understanding through educational and cultural exchange,” according to its mission statement.
